The Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers have reportedly pulled off a blockbuster trade.
According to The Athletic's Dianna Russini, the Packers are sending Gary to the Cowboys in exchange for a 2027 Day 3 pick.
"Trade! The Dallas Cowboys are trading for Packers DL Rashan Gary, sources tell The Athletic. Dallas bolsters its pass rush with the addition of the 2019 first-round pick. The Packers will receive a 2027 Day 3 pick in return," Russini wrote.
The exact round of the pick has not yet been revealed.
Why Packers, Cowboys pulled off Gary trade
It's pretty simple, really.
The Cowboys never replaced the sack production lost after the Micah Parsons trade with the Packers, and Green Bay was not happy with Gary's performance in the second half of last season and felt he was no longer worth his contract.
The Packers will also free up some much-needed cap space in order to make some moves in free agency.
The Cowboys are getting a player who has tallied 7.5 sacks or more in four of his seven seasons in the NFL.
Despite a disappointing second half of last season, Gary still had more sacks (7.5) than every Cowboys defender but Jadeveon Clowney, so he amounts to an upgrade.
