Green Bay Packers trade Rashan Gary to the Dallas Cowboys

The Green Bay Packers were widely expected to part ways with pass rusher Rashan Gary this off-season. With a $28 million cap hit, the team can save $11 million by not bringing him back in 2026. As such, many assumed that he would be a salary cap casualty.

Over the weekend, Gary posted and then deleted a farewell to the Packers organization and the fans. He then claimed that his social media account had been hacked.

And after all that weird drama, it turns out he is not being cut after all. Instead, Green Bay has traded him.

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Packers have traded Gary to the Dallas Cowboys for a 2027 late-round pick in the NFL Draft:

A day three pick will be in any one of the fourth, fifth, sixth, or seventh rounds.

Gary is coming off a season that saw him accumulate 7.5 sacks in the first seven games of the year. However, he recorded none over the final 10 games of the season, finishing the year with 7.5 for the second season in a row.

A first round pick in 2019, Gary, at one time, was one of the highest paid pass rushers in the game. However, he never lived up to the contract in Green Bay. This past season, especially, fans were concerned about his perceived lack of effort in the second half of the year. He oftentimes would stop pursuing quarterbacks on the run, refusing to play through the whistle.

Now he will get a fresh start in Dallas with his former teammate Kenny Clark, who was sent to the Cowboys last year as part of the Micah Parsons trade.
