The Atlanta Falcons are in the market for a veteran quarterback and it appears they have interest in one signal-caller in particular.
According to NFL Network's Tom Pelissero, the Falcons are expected to make a strong push for released former Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.
"The Falcons are making a strong push to sign former Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa and a deal could come together soon, sources tell The Insiders," Pelissero reported.
Tagovailoa was released by the Dolphins on Monday, which makes him free to agree to a deal with any team. However, no deal can be finalized until the start of the new league year on March 11.
Signing Tua would give the Falcons a veteran insurance policy behind Michael Penix Jr., who failed to cement himself as a locked-in long-term starter in 2025.
Despite his struggles last season, Pelissero notes that the Falcons are still "building their offense" for Penix, so Tua isn't being brought in to replace him. That said, if Penix struggles during the season, we could see Tua get the nod..
Tagovailoa's release comes after two down seasons in a row. He was benched in 2025 for Quinn Ewers after posting one of the worst showings of his career.
As a result of his stock being at an all-time low, Tua shouldn't cost more than the veteran's minimum, which is $1.3 million.
At that price, and with the Falcons' need for more help in the quarterbacks room, it makes all the sense in the world to take a swing on Tua.
