49ers rumor could lead to Packers $48 million free agent signing with San Francisco

The San Francisco 49ers will be searching for a wide receiver in NFL free agency, and it sounds like the team could have its eyes on a free agent playmaker from the Green Bay Packers.

Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated believes the 49ers could be a potential fit for Packers wide receiver Romeo Doubs.

Breer adds that Doubs could land a deal worth close to $20 million annually on the open market. Spotrac projects the former Day 3 pick will sign a contract worth $12 million over four seasons, a total value of $48 million.

"San Francisco, meanwhile, would be a fit for Packers free agent Romeo Doubs, as the Niners consider post–Brandon Aiyuk plans. Doubs could get close to $20 million per year," Breer said.

Doubs is coming off one of the better seasons of his career with 724 yards and six touchdowns. The 25-year-old is an ascending pkayer, but with Green Bay having a receiver room stacked with young talent, Doubs could be the odd man out.

Receiver could become a dire need for San Francisco, as Jauan Jennings could depart in free agency, and Brandon Aiyuk's days with the franchise seem to be over.

Doubs would be an excellent signing by general manager John Lynch. The Nevada product will step in as a top receiver for quarterback Brock Purdy and could emerge as a star with a chance of scenery in a more featured role.

San Francisco is slated to have $35.5 million in cap space, so they have the money to sign Doubs and patch up some holes in their receiver room.
