Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood has slammed footage of Liverpool's open training session ahead of their Champions League last 16 tie against Galatasaray. The Reds travel to Turkey on Tuesday night looking to take a lead to Anfield for next week's second leg.

Arne Slot's men have enjoyed a weekend off after progressing to the FA Cup quarter-final on Friday night. They beat Wolves, who had defeated them in the Premier League three days prior, 3-1 thanks to goals from Andrew Robertson, Mohamed Salah and Curtis Jones.

On Monday, Slot took training in front of the media ahead of their Champions League clash. As part of the session, Sky Sports News broadcasted part of training, with one particular moment appearing to leave Sherwood speechless.

The camera picked up Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai throwing a medicine ball over a goal to each other. Sky Sports' presenter Tom White was also puzzled by what was going on, before Sherwood interjected.

He remarked: "What was that? No, I have no idea what...incredible. It baffles me. That's nonsense. Throwing the ball over...I mean, mate, let's talk, let's move."

Federico Chiesa was a notable absent from Liverpool's open training session. Slot is expected to provide an update on the Italian's fitness when he speaks to the media in Istanbul on Monday evening.

Trey Nyoni was also missing after playing the first half in the Under-21s' 5-0 win over Wolves on Sunday. Florian Wirtz did feature having made his comeback in the FA Cup win at Wolves.

The Germany international had missed the last three games with a back issue, but could make his first start since February 14. Liverpool travel to Turkey after already suffering a 1-0 defeat to Galatasaray earlier this season.

"Difficult," Slot told TNT Sports when asked how he viewed the tie. "That is what you expect in the last 16, because every team you are going to face is difficult because they are there for a reason.

"What makes it even more [difficult] for us is to know that we have already played there and we have lost. It’s a very good team and they have very good players.

"But the whole atmosphere makes it different from any other away game I’ve ever played. Every time we had the ball, the noise, the whistling, is so hard that sometimes you wonder if this could be done by human people.

"It’s so hard, from the start to the end. The noise is even harder than when they score a goal. So, it’s a challenging environment to play, but the good thing is that we play at home as well, and that’s going to be a challenging environment for Galatasaray to play in."
