Liverpool are in for a busy summer and a new winger is top of Richard Hughes’ shopping list.
Liverpool’s recruitment team will be running the numbers for various positions that need to be addressed this summer with new wingers being near the top of the list of priorities.
Several names have been mentioned with the Reds favourites to land Yan Diomande and Bradley Barcola at Paris Saint Germain another player who Richard Hughes is considering. Not only do both players pass the eye test, but they also produce the sort of numbers that Liverpool need in the forward line to regain the Premier League title that has been all but lost.
Liverpool target Moussa Diaby
A new name has emerged with TEAMtalk reporting that a former Premier League winger is on Liverpool’s radar: “Liverpool have held talks and are giving serious thoughts to the prospects of signing Moussa Diaby this summer after it was made clear the former Aston Villa winger can leave Al-Ittihad, though he is just one of a number of options the Reds are looking into and with rival Premier League interest in the 11-times capped France star also growing.”
Contracted until 2029, Saudi Pro League outfit Al-Ittihad value the 26-year old at around £35 million with them considering either a straight sale or a loan with an option to buy. The report also claims that “Liverpool are in close contact with Diaby’s representatives”, and is being considered as a long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah.
Could Diaby handle the pressure at Liverpool?
The winger has been at big clubs before in the shape of Paris Saint Germain, Bayer Leverkusen and Aston Villa, although Liverpool would represent a marked step up, however, he has shown before that he isn’t afraid to make big decisions.
“I got out of my comfort zone when I left Paris. But it was a way of taking responsibility, of assuming. I quickly felt important in the club project,” Diaby said of when he left Ligue 1 to go to the Bundesliga. “The Bundesliga leaves a lot of chances to the youth; we want to register the players in the long-term, we let them express themselves. In Germany, we find what we came for: playing time, confidence.” If he is the man to replace Salah, confidence is exactly what he will need.
