The New Orleans Saints are making a big move as free agency begins, agreeing to a deal with running back Travis Etienne Jr.
A former Jacksonville Jaguars running back, Etienne spent his entire career with the Jaguars, producing almost 3,800 rushing yards in four seasons. However, Jacksonville opted to let Etienne go, allowing him to test free agency.
Ultimately, Etienne decided to sign closer to home, choosing to go to New Orleans for the next stage of his career. Etienne adds a fresh face into a crowded backfield for the 2026 season.
Here's a look at how the Etienne signing impacts the Saints for next year.

Travis Etienne
Etienne joins the Saints following four seasons with the Jaguars, where he produced just under 3,800 rushing yards and 25 rushing touchdowns overall. Etienne had three seasons with at least 1,000 rushing yards, which includes 1,107 yards and seven touchdowns last year.
Etienne likely becomes the Saints primary running back, taking over what is now a crowded backfield.
Alvin Kamara
Kamara has been the Saints featured running back for the past decade, but that appears to be coming to an end. The veteran running back is coming off a season when he had a career-low 471 rushing yards, and he is set to enter his age-31 season in 2026.
Kamara is set to enter the final year of his contract in New Orleans, with a cap hit of over $10 million during the year.
Kendre Miller
Miller is a former third-round pick who will enter his fourth season in the NFL this year. So far, Miller has just 497 rushing yards in 21 games and three rushing touchdowns, and will remain a depth option for New Orleans next year.
Devin Neal
The Saints drafted Devin Neal in the sixth-round of the 2025 NFL draft, producing 206 rushing yards and two touchdowns over 10 games in his rookie season. Like Miller, Neal will be a depth option for the Saints in 2026.
Audric Estime
Estime is a former Denver Broncos 2024 draft pick whom the Saints signed to their practice squad in October. He played in seven games for the Saints, producing 198 yards and one touchdown.
Travis Etienne Jr. contract details
The Saints are giving Etienne a four-year, $52 million contract in free agency, which will be tied for the second-biggest contract on the team. Etienne's $13 million a season makes him around the seventh-highest paid running back in the NFL in 2026.
