The San Francisco 49ers entered the 2026 offseason with a major need at wide receiver. Jauan Jennings is a free agent, and Brandon Aiyuk is likely on his way out.
With such an obvious need, it's not a surprise that they've been linked to the top wide receivers. While they missed out on Alec Pierce on his $114 million deal, the 49ers are adding the other top WR.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, the 49ers are in agreement on a three-year contract with Mike Evans, poaching him from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after 12 seasons with the NFC South contender.
49ers to sign Mike Evans on 3-year deal
"ESPN sources: former Buccaneers six-time Pro Bowl WR Mike Evans is expected to sign a three-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers," Schefter reports.
This is a massive addition for the 49ers this offseason. Evans is a fantastic wide receiver and a potential future Hall of Famer.
The 32-year-old veteran receiver has been in the NFL for 12 seasons, all with the Buccaneers. He's played in 176 games and has put up 13,052 yards and 108 touchdowns on 86 receptions.
Evans is a six-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion. He's leaving the Buccaneers to join the 49ers and become the top receiver for Brock Purdy in San Francisco.

Through the first 11 seasons of his NFL career, Evans had at least 1,000 yards per-year. But, after some injuries in 2025, Evans only had 368 yards in eight games played.
But now that he's healthy, the 49ers are adding him to pair with Ricky Pearsall in the 49ers offense. Kyle Shanahan and Purdy now have a new WR1 in Evans.
It's a very fun addition for the 49ers, as Evans should be the perfect piece for the 49ers to fill their big WR need this offseason.
