Patrick Mahomes #15 of the Kansas City Chiefs celebrates after defeating the San Francisco 49ers 25-22 in overtime during Super Bowl LVIII at Allegiant Stadium on February 11, 2024 in Las Vegas, Nevada
The Kansas City Chiefs made one of the most talked-about moves of the NFL offseason by signing running back Kenneth Walker III, and quarterback Patrick Mahomes quickly shared his reaction.
Shortly after news of the deal surfaced, Walker posted a photo of himself wearing a Chiefs uniform on social media. Mahomes responded in the comments with a short but enthusiastic message.
“LFGG!!!” Mahomes wrote, shorthand for “Let’s (expletive) go,” followed by three flexed-arm emojis.
The reaction highlighted Mahomes’ excitement about the addition of a running back who could play a major role in the Chiefs’ offense moving forward.
Chiefs Sign Kenneth Walker III to Major Free Agent Contract
The Chiefs signed Walker to a three-year contract worth $45 million, according to NFL Network senior insider Ian Rapoport. The deal reportedly includes $28.7 million guaranteed and carries an average salary of $14.35 million per year.
Kansas City entered the offseason looking to improve a rushing attack that struggled during the 2025 season. The front office viewed Walker as a key addition who could immediately strengthen the backfield.
Walker spent the previous season with the Seattle Seahawks, where he shared carries with running back Zach Charbonnet. Despite the committee approach, Walker still rushed for 1,027 yards and five touchdowns.
He delivered several standout performances in the postseason as well. Walker rushed for 313 yards and four touchdowns across three playoff games, including a 135-yard effort against New England in Super Bowl LX.
Walker has produced two 1,000-yard seasons during his first four years in the NFL. In another campaign, he ran for 905 yards despite appearing in only 15 games.
Kansas City’s front office made the signing after already making a major offseason move by trading All-Pro cornerback Trent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams for multiple draft picks.
The addition of Walker could prove especially valuable as Mahomes continues recovering from a significant knee injury that ended his 2025 season.
Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce Remain Chiefs Cornerstones
While the Chiefs added a new offensive weapon, the team also received confirmation that veteran tight end Travis Kelce will return for another season.
Rapoport reported that the other 31 NFL teams have been informed that Kelce plans to play a 14th season with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Mahomes appeared to acknowledge that news as well by posting two photos of himself and Kelce on Instagram accompanied by an alarm clock emoji and a bow-and-arrow emoji.
Kelce made his decision shortly before the start of the NFL free agency period.
Mahomes has frequently spoken about the importance of his longtime teammate. Following a 2025 loss to the Houston Texans, he reflected on the possibility that Kelce could eventually retire.
“Every season that I’ve had with him these last few years, I try to cherish because you never know,” Mahomes said. “He got himself in great shape this year and he’s played great football, and he’ll have the option to do whatever he wants to do after this season.”
Mahomes also praised Kelce’s dedication to the team as the Chiefs attempted to remain competitive late in the season.
“I know one thing is he’ll give everything he has the rest of this season to try and give us a chance to make a playoff run,” Mahomes said. “We know the chances are getting lower and lower, but I know the guys on this team are going to give everything they have every opportunity they get.”
Even at age 36, Kelce remained Kansas City’s most productive receiver in 2025. He led the team in targets with 108, receptions with 76, and receiving yards with 851.
Kelce also recorded five touchdowns and 45 receiving first downs during the season.
