It’s the end of era in New Orleans, as Demario Davis, one of the best free agent signing in Saints’ history is headed back to the New York Jets. Davis is set to sign a two-year, $22 million deal that includes $15 million fully guaranteed, per reports.
For the last 8 years, Davis was the epitome of what you wanted from a member of the New Orleans Saints. He was a great leader and player, with outstanding character who connected with the fans and community from day one. He was selected as a team captain all 8 seasons with the Saints’ and he was chosen as their nominee for the Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year in 2020, 2022, and 2025.
Most players at 37-years-old are showing signs of slowing down, however Davis set a career-high in tackles last season with the Saints.
While the loss will hurt, the NFL is a business. The Saints needed to do what was best for them as did Davis for his family. He will now return home to the team that drafted him to finish out his NFL career. But his legacy will live on in New Orleans for what he did both on and off the field.
