The Denver Broncos have yet to make a move in free agency since the legal tampering period opened up at 10:00 am Mountain time on Monday. Perhaps the most concerning aspect of that is that the team has yet to add a running back to the roster.
With only RJ Harvey, Tyler Badie, Deuce Vaughn and Cody Schrader under contract for next season, it's clear that a move needs to be made. However, many of the top names on this year's market are already gone.
Kenneth Walker has agreed to a new contract with the Kansas City Chiefs. Travis Etienne will be leaving the Jacksonville Jaguars to join the New Orleans Saints and Tyler Allgeier will join the Arizona Cardinals.
Those are three players that Broncos Country really wanted to see come to Denver. The Broncos lost out on all of them. So what's left? It seems imperative that a move needs to be made, and there are still some viable options out there.
5 free-agent running backs the Broncos could still sign
Rico Dowdle
Rico Dowdle was connected to the Broncos as a possibility in free agency last offseason, but he chose to sign a one-year deal with the Carolina Panthers. It would be surprising to see the Panthers let him walk as he was easily the team's best rusher last season.
He is probably the most attractive name available as of this writing.
Rachaad White
The former third-round pick took a back seat to Bucky Irving in Tampa Bay, but he has over 2,500 career rushing yards and is a tremendous receiver out of the backfield.
Isiah Pacheco
The Chiefs seem ready to move on from Pacheco after the signing of Walker. Once one of the toughest runners in the league, he's never looked the same after fracturing his fibula in 2024.
J.K. Dobbins
Of all of the options on this list, this one is the most likely. The Broncos could save a lot of money by simply re-signing their own free agent, J.K. Dobbins, but his injury history is a major issue.
Emmanuel Wilson
We have to throw one wild card in here, and this is it. The Broncos actually signed Emmanuel Wilson as an undrafted free agent out of Fort Valley State in 2023, but waived him just days later. He was picked up by the Green Bay Packers and has played quite well for them, rushing for over 1,000 yards and seven touchdowns in a limited role.
