Chelsea learn who they will face in the FA Cup quarter-finals, last played against them in 1929

After a hectic 4-2 extra-time win over Wrexham on Saturday night, Chelsea have learned who they will face in the FA Cup quarter-finals. The Blues will take on League One side Port Vale.

Goals from Alejandro Garnacho, Josh Acheampong and Joao Pedro got the job done on a night that saw Chelsea ride their luck, after Liam Rosenior made nine changes. Wrexham had a goal disallowed, too.

The narrow offside came after VAR ruled George Dobson’s tackle was a red card, more than the yellow he received on the pitch. It comes after Chelsea had beaten Charlton and Hull to reach the fifth round.

The Blues have racked up a tally of 13 goals in just three FA Cup games. West Ham face Brentford tonight, while Chelsea were in the hat with Arsenal, Man City, Liverpool, Southampton, Leeds and Port Vale.

Chelsea draw Port Vale in the FA Cup quarter-finals

Currently, Chelsea are preparing to fight for another quarter-final place in the Champions League with the first leg against PSG in Paris on Wednesday night. But back home, Chelsea have learned their opponents.

Joe Hart and Joe Cole conducted the draw ahead of Monday’s clash between West Ham and Brentford, drawing Chelsea at Stamford Bridge against lowly Port Vale, the lowest-ranked side still in the FA Cup.

Chelsea will be delighted with their draw, avoiding the big boys and giving them a real chance to reach the semi-finals and a trip to Wembley. Rosenior’s hopes of silverware are still very much alive.

Chelsea’s record against Port Vale, 97 years since last game

Rosenior and Chelsea will be ecstatic with the draw. If Chelsea could have picked anything from the draw, a home tie against the worst side still in the competition gives them the best chance of progressing.

Incredibly, the last time the two sides played eachother was 97 years ago in 1929, which resulted in a 1-0 win for Port Vale. These days, Chelsea will be massive favourites even if Vale managed to beat Sunderland.

Chelsea will do battle with Vale on the weekend of April 4th and 5th, the first game after the international break. Less than a month to wait until Chelsea find out if they will be in the FA Cup semi-finals.
