Team Glazer Spin Job On Mike Evans

Two years ago, then-Bucs receiver Mike Evans happily was talking publicly about how he wants to be a “Buc For Life.”

Logic says Evans was ripe to be signed for longer than the two-year deal he received in March of 2024. Logic also says Evans was ripe for a contract extension and a raise after the 2024 season, the one in which fans, the organization and Evans celebrated his NFL record 11th consectutive 1,000-yard season and another division title.

But that never happened. And there never appeared to be any urgency to make it happen at those times.

Fast-forward to today and the announcement that Evans will join the 49ers on a three-year contract. Team Glazer issued the following announcement this afternoon.

Man, that statement is under Joe’s skin, particularly the part where Team Glazer says, “Our goal was always to ensure that Mike would play his entire career as a Buccaneer.”

Really? “Always,” really?

Joe cautioned fans two years ago when the Bucs were celebrating the whole “Buc For Life” thing surrounding the Evans re-signing. The talk was fun, but it didn’t have the contract years to back up the statement.

Over the past month or so, the Bucs fought hard to keep Evans, but it was too little and too late.

Ball dropped.
