Chiefs Lose 2-Time Super Bowl Champion To Conference Rival

Four-year veteran safety Bryan Cook signed a new three-year, $40.25 million contract with the Cincinnati Bengals. Cook, a former second-round pick and two-time Super Bowl champion, spent the entirety of his career with the Kansas City Chiefs.

The 2025 season was easily the best of Bryan Cook’s young career. While he didn’t receive All-Pro or Pro Bowl nominations for his play, he was one of the league’s better safeties. Starting and appearing in all 17 games, the veteran finished the year with 85 tackles, one tackle-for-loss, six passes defended, and an 83.5 PFF grade, the fourth-best mark among 91 eligible players. Despite his breakout season, the Chiefs themselves had a bad year, missing the playoffs and securing a top-10 pick despite entering the season with Super Bowl aspirations.

Bryan Cook originally entered the league as a second-round pick in the 2022 NFL Draft. Selected by the Kansas City Chiefs, the Cincinnati product spent most of his rookie season playing in a rotational role. Appearing in 16 games while only making one start, Cook finished his inaugural campaign with one sack, 33 tackles, one tackle-for-loss, two quarterback hits, and a 59.5 PFF grade. With his help, the Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles to win the second Super Bowl of the Patrick Mahomes Era.

Following his promising debut, Bryan Cook earned a full-time starting role in 2023. While injuries limited him to just 12 games, he remained productive when on the field, recording one interception, two passes defended, 42 tackles, one tackle-for-loss, and a 65.2 PFF grade. This season also ended in glory for Kansas City, as the organization became the first team to win consecutive Super Bowls since the 2003-2004 New England Patriots.

Since signing his rookie contract, Bryan Cook has appeared in 62 games while making 47 starts. While on the field, the Cincinnati product has recorded three interceptions, 15 passes defended, one sack, 238 tackles, and four tackles-for-loss.
