Bears Land $30 Million Defensive Star in Surprise Move: Report

Monday, March 9 is bringing plenty of drama and excitement in the NFL world, as free agency ramps up to the official start on Wednesday, March 11.

The Chicago Bears and Ben Johnson are working to put together a winning lineup for the 2026-27 season. The team had a taste of success in 2025 with a run that landed them the top spot in the NFC North and almost got them further along to the Super Bowl. But, they fell short, and now, they’re back and looking for more.

On Monday, Adam Schefter of ESPN broke the news that the Bears have inked a $30 million defensive star to their roster. Well, they’ll officially be able to sign him on Wednesday, but the deal is in place, according to his report.

“Former Browns LB Devin Bush reached agreement today on a 3-year, $30 million deal that includes $21 million guaranteed with the Chicago Bears, per agent Drew Rosenhaus,” he stated on X.

“Big investment by the Chicago Bears in Devin Bush,” one follower said on X, in response to the message. “Devin Bush landing a 3-year, $30M deal with $21M guaranteed from the Bears is solid money for a guy coming off a strong year in Cleveland. Bears are loading up that linebacker room-looks like they’re going all-in on defense this offseason. Chicago fans gotta be hyped,” another added.

In a March 6 feature for CBS Sports, Zachary Pereles calls Bush an “under-the-radar” linebacker.

“Devin Bush was one of the NFL’s best under-the-radar bounce-back stories in 2025,” he notes in the feature. “He was the only player in the NFL with multiple interceptions returned for touchdowns, and his 164 interception return yards were also the most in the league.”

He adds, “Bush went from top-three finisher in Defensive Rookie of the Year voting in 2019 to hardly playing in 2023, but the last two years with the Browns show he has the athleticism and speed to get it done in the middle.”

So, snagging Bush isn’t as high-profile a move as, oh, say Maxx Crosby, but it’s still going to pack a punch.
