It was only a matter of time before the NBA veteran Patrick Beverley would comment on the recent viral video of San Antonio Spurs center Victor Wembanyama getting emotional after a victory.

Considering Beverley’s post-Play-In victory celebration from years back has gone viral many times, becoming an NBA meme, Beverley had to make a statement on it.

Patrick Beverley on X: Asking for a friend. I cry when we Win the Play-In game people Say “he’s Overreacting”. Wemby cries after a regular season game people Say “That’s the Love for the Game” Yal love moving the goal post 🤦🏾‍♂️😂😂

All season long, Wembanyama has received support for showing clear signs of caring about the game.

Getting emotional over a regular-season win might seem over-the-top for some, but the viral moment was mostly well-received, especially considering it occurred weeks after Wembanyama was credited for contributing to a high-intensity All-Star game.

A March 6 game against the Los Angeles Clippers nearly snapped a two-game winning streak for the Spurs. Wembanyama’s team trailed by double digits.

A late-game comeback was in store for the Spurs, and San Antonio managed to secure a 116-112 victory on the second night of a back-to-back. Wembanyama had a short shift, seeing the court for just 21 minutes, but his impact was obvious.

The big man wrapped up the game by going 11-21 from the field to score 27 points. He secured a double-double with 10 rebounds and blocked four shots on the defensive end of the floor.

Wembanyama and the Spurs continued their winning ways on March 8. In a matchup at home against the Houston Rockets, Wembanyama checked in for 30 minutes. He went 9-13 from the field to score 29 points. He came just two rebounds shy of another double-double and blocked four more shots.

The Spurs secured their fourth win in a row. Since the start of February, Wembanyama and the Spurs have just one loss. It’s been a challenging run, but the Spurs have been as dominant as ever. They are looking to fight for the Western Conference’s first seed as they close in on the Oklahoma City Thunder.

No Hard Feelings

While Beverley speaks out on the situation, questioning the differences between the two situations, the former NBA guard isn’t taking a shot at Wembanyama. He would follow up by responding to a fan, showing love to a comment that stated, “never shame passion!”

Beverley has developed plenty of critics during his NBA run due to his outspoken ways, but his energy and passion for the game could never really be questioned.

The 37-year-old guard landed in the NBA with the Houston Rockets in 2013. He was originally drafted 42nd overall in 2009, but played overseas first.

During his NBA run, Beverley had stints with the Rockets, LA Clippers, Minnesota Timberwolves, LA Lakers, Chicago Bulls, Philadelphia 76ers, and the Milwaukee Bucks.
