Liverpool need to strengthen all over the pitch but one full-back target could be lost already.

Liverpool spent big on the full-back areas last summer hoping that Jeremie Frimpong and Milos Kerkez would be the new Trent Alexander-Arnold and Andy Robertson.

Between them, the two title winning full-backs would regularly contribute to nearly 40 goals a season, however the £70m pair of Frimpong and Kerkez aren’t even close to hitting double figures, for a variety of reasons. Robertson’s goal and inch perfect assist against Wolves in the FA Cup serving a timely reminder of the standard needed in a red shirt.

Man City look to make Liverpool target swoop, again

Richard Hughes has been linked with a number of full-backs and one of the best in the league is Tino Livramento. According to Football Insider though, the England international could be following two other Premier League stand-outs to the Etihad.

Speaking on the Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, former Everton CEO Keith Wyness believes that an agreement between Man City and Newcastle could be achieved for a fee in the region of £70million.H e told the podcast: “Yes, very much so. I think that’s pretty much nailed on as far as I’m aware.

“I heard from somebody the other day. I talked to an agent who said that it’s going to be happening. They did expect that sort of big number around the £70m mark, which is a big number, as we say, breaking the record. But I think he’s the right one for City. I think he’s a talented player, and it helps Newcastle fill the coffers.”

Why Liverpool should make Livramento move

Livramento is a manager’s dream because he is capable of playing on either flank with no loss of performance. He has been one of the Premier League’s most consistent performers this season and is pushing for a starting place in Thomas Tuchel’s starting XI for England in the World Cup. His ability to cover two positions guarantees him a place on the plane to the States though.

With Frimpong looking more comfortable in an advanced position, it may be that Liverpool re-think their full-back plans and make a move for a player like Livramento. If they want to catch City and regain top spot, they need to avoid the mistake that was made in January when Antoine Semenyo and Marc Guehi slipped through their fingers.
