Micky van de Ven has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool ahead of the summer transfer window.
Liverpool are expected to be active in the summer transfer market regardless of how the remainder of the season unfolds for Arne Slot’s side.
However, Virgil van Dijk admitted that failing to qualify for the Champions League could have a knock-on effect on the club’s plans.
“The stakes are very high,” he told reporters. “Listen, if you play for Liverpool, it’s always been like that. It’s down to us, together with our fans, to get the results we need to get into the Champions League. Either we get it and we deserve it or we don’t get it and we don’t deserve it.”
Tottenham Hotspur’s struggles in the Premier League could potentially create opportunities for Liverpool in the transfer market. Spurs have been dragged into a relegation battle after a poor run of form that includes 11 league matches without a win and none so far this calendar year.
Their 3-1 defeat to Crystal Palace last Thursday has left them just one point above the relegation zone. Dropping into the Championship would have serious financial implications for the North London club and could force them to sell several key players, while others may seek moves to remain at the top level.
Liverpool, meanwhile, may look to strengthen their defence. Ibrahima Konate and Virgil van Dijk have formed the Reds’ main centre-back partnership for much of the campaign, but with uncertainty surrounding their long-term futures, squad depth remains a concern.
Although Jeremy Jacquet is set to arrive from Rennes, the potential departure of Konate as a free agent could leave Liverpool short of options again. Tottenham defender Micky van de Ven has been linked with a summer move to Anfield.
The Dutch centre-back possesses exceptional pace, which would suit Slot’s preference for a more aggressive defensive line. The 24-year-old has racked up 35 appearances, scored seven goals, and provided one assist for Spurs in all competitions this season.
According to The Telegraph, Tottenham are planning a major overhaul of their underperforming squad, with captain Cristian Romero among the high-profile players who could depart. While Romero remains important in Spurs’ fight against relegation, the club believes a split at the end of the season could suit all parties.
Tottenham are expected to listen to offers for several players as they attempt to reshape the squad and change the culture around the team. Among those who could also be sold are goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario and full-back Pedro Porro.
However, Spurs would ideally like to keep a core group that includes Micky van de Ven, Dominic Solanke, Conor Gallagher, Mohammed Kudus, Xavi Simons, youngsters Archie Gray and Lucas Bergvall, as well as James Maddison and Dejan Kulusevski, both of whom have yet to feature this season due to injuries.
Despite that stance, there have been suggestions that Van de Ven could be open to leaving. If relegation were to occur, Tottenham could be forced into difficult decisions, with the club’s fate likely to determine whether they control their transfer strategy or have key departures forced upon them.
