Alexis Mac Allister provides update on Liverpool future

Alexis Mac Allister’s father and agent, Carlos recently denied that contract extension talks are currently underway for the Liverpool midfielder.

Following Ryan Gravenberch’s new deal, confirmed on Saturday, reports suggested that Mac Allister could be next to secure fresh terms.

Despite a dip in form this season, Mac Allister remains a key figure for Arne Slot, having missed just two games and started 24 of Liverpool’s 29 Premier League matches.

His current contract runs until 2028, the same year Gravenberch’s previous deal ended, while Dominik Szoboszlai, another midfielder Liverpool is negotiating with, has two years remaining on his deal.

Carlos Mac Allister confirmed that, unlike some of his midfield colleagues, no negotiations for a new contract are currently taking place for his son. “There are no negotiations with Liverpool to renew the contract,” he told WinWin.com.

Mac Allister has drawn interest from Real Madrid in recent years, though it is unclear whether the Spanish giants’ pursuit has been affected by his dip in form this season.

Last month, reports even linked the World Cup winner with a surprise move to Liverpool’s fierce rivals, Manchester United. However, his father and agent again dismissed the rumours, firmly distancing Mac Allister from the proposed transfer.

“Alexis is only thinking about Liverpool at the moment,” he told WinWin. “We are waiting for an offer to renew his contract. We will see what the club’s plan is.”

The 27-year-old started in Liverpool’s 3-1 victory over Wolves on Friday night but was substituted due to a knee injury. Since joining the Reds from Brighton in 2023, Mac Allister has made 136 appearances for the club.

Providing an update on his future, he said: “First of all, I want to congratulate Ryan. I think it is really good for him and he deserves it because he has been a really important player for us in a season that we won the Premier League, which is not easy at all. So, congratulations to him. In terms of me, we are not in contract talks but I’m not in a rush – that’s only a fact.”
