Former Tottenham Hotspur boss Tim Sherwood has criticised footage from Liverpool's open training session ahead of their Champions League last-16 clash with Galatasaray. The Reds head to Turkey on Tuesday evening looking to establish an advantage to take back to Anfield for next week's second leg.

Arne Slot's side have benefited from a weekend break after advancing to the FA Cup quarter-finals on Friday evening. They defeated Wolves, who had beaten them in the Premier League three days earlier, 3-1 courtesy of strikes from Andrew Robertson, Mohamed Salah and Curtis Jones.

On Monday, Slot conducted training before the media in an open training session ahead of their Champions League fixture. As part of the session, Sky Sports News broadcast sections of training, with one specific moment seemingly leaving Sherwood lost for words.

The camera captured Salah and Dominik Szoboszlai tossing a medicine ball over a goal to one another. Sky Sports' presenter Tom White was equally baffled by what was unfolding, before Sherwood interrupted, reports the Mirror.

"What was that? No, I have no idea what...incredible," Sherwood said. "It baffles me. That's nonsense. Throwing the ball over...I mean, mate, let's talk, let's move."

Federico Chiesa was a notable absentee from Liverpool's open training session. Slot is anticipated to deliver an update on the Italian's condition when he addresses the media in Istanbul on Monday evening.

Trey Nyoni was also absent after participating in the first half of the Under-21s' 5-0 victory over Wolves on Sunday. Florian Wirtz did participate, having returned in the FA Cup triumph against Wolves.

The Germany international had been sidelined for the previous three matches with a back problem, but could make his first start since 14 February. Liverpool are set to travel to Turkey, having already suffered a 1-0 loss to Galatasaray earlier this season.

"Difficult," Slot told TNT Sports when asked how he viewed the tie with Galatasaray. "That is what you expect in the last 16, because every team you are going to face is difficult because they are there for a reason.

"What makes it even more [difficult] for us is to know that we have already played there and we have lost. It’s a very good team and they have very good players.

"But the whole atmosphere makes it different from any other away game I’ve ever played. Every time we had the ball, the noise, the whistling, is so hard that sometimes you wonder if this could be done by human people.

"It’s so hard, from the start to the end. The noise is even harder than when they score a goal. So, it’s a challenging environment to play, but the good thing is that we play at home as well, and that’s going to be a challenging environment for Galatasaray to play in."
