The San Francisco 49ers have made a splash early into free agency. According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the 49ers have agreed to a three-year deal with star wide receiver Mike Evans worth up to $ 60.4 million.
Evans is a six-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl champion in 2021 who has spent his entire 12-year career with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. His move to San Francisco marks a significant career shift, with quarterback Brock Purdy as his new connection.
Last season, Evans played just eight games due to a fractured collarbone, but tallied three touchdowns and 368 yards on 30 total receptions.

A better representation of his talent would be to look at his 2024 season (and the years prior), where Evans managed 11 touchdowns and 1,004 yards over 74 receptions.
There’s still plenty for San Francisco to figure out over the remainder of free agency, as star LT Trent Williams seems to be up for grabs, a spot they’ll need to figure out for this upcoming season.
It’s still to be seen whether former 49ers’ wide receiver Jauan Jennings ends up finding a new home, but Evans clearly is a notable addition that could help with the loss of Jennings, if that turns out to be the case.
Last season, San Francisco went 12-4, losing in the divisional round to the Seattle Seahawks, who eventually made a Super Bowl appearance. Could their new star wide receiver addition help them get over the hump?
