£55m Premier League star told to join'big team'after Chelsea links

Giuseppe Rossi has a message for Sandro Tonali, who has been linked to Chelsea and a couple more English giants.

At the start of the year, it was reported that Chelsea and Juventus are both interested in Tonali.

Rossi, who used to play for the Blues’ rivals Manchester United, has now been discussing Tonali’s future.

Giuseppe Rossi tells Sandro Tonali to join ‘big team’ after Chelsea links

Newcastle United fans will be very disappointed with Rossi’s comments, with the retired striker basically claiming that the Magpies are not a big club.

Speaking to Goal, Rossi said: “He deserves it. He’s been a great player for Newcastle. He was great at Milan, great for Newcastle.

“He’s a leader out there. He provides a lot of quality, but also quantity. So, these are rare players in our game today. So, he deserves to play for a big team for sure. The price tags today in football are crazy. So, you’re definitely going to be paying top dollar for a player like him.”

It is not impossible that Chelsea make a move for a new midfielder this summer, though that will not be necessary if Romeo Lavia and Dario Essugo can prove their fitness between now and the end of the season.

Surely we can just put our trust in Andrey Santos?

Or are the club worried about Romeo Lavia and Dario Essugo?

Essugo recently spoke about his injury woes after making his comeback in Chelsea’s 4-2 win against Wrexham in the FA Cup over the weekend.

Essugo provided two assists on the day, so it looks like the Portugal Under-21 international could be a good option going forward should he be able to remain fit. If not and the same thing happens to Lavia, Chelsea will probably swoop for a new midfielder like Tonali.

Why Sandro Tonali deal won’t be simple for Chelsea

Unfortunately for Chelsea, acquiring Tonali will not be easy. According to The Sun, while Chelsea are monitoring the 25-year-old, Premier League rivals Arsenal and Manchester City are also thought to be keen on him.

His price tag could also be a potential sticking point. Newcastle paid £55m for Tonali and will not want to let him go.

It is going to cost huge money to get the Italian out of St James’ Park. Again, though, as long as Lavia and Essugo remain fit, the Club World Cup winners will not need to prioritise buying a new midfielder. Lavia, Essugo, Moises Caicedo, Enzo Fernandez and Andrey Santos will be enough.
