The San Francisco 49ers signed former New England Patriots offensive tackle Vederian Lowe to a two-year, $12 million deal on Monday. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler reported this.
The tackle had a solid season for the Patriots last year. He was able to fill in with the MCL injury to Will Campbell. He appeared in 17 total games, with four starts. He had 317 offensive snaps, where he allowed one sack, 15 pressures, and two penalties.
2025 served as a bounce-back year for him after he struggled in the 2024 season. One of his highlights was a lineman-eligible touchdown. He took a pass from four yards out for the score.
Now, he will look to help the San Francisco 49ers, in what was a busy Monday for the team. Fowler drove into the details on Monday afternoon.

Lowe was drafted by the Minnesota Vikings in 2022 and started in four games in his rookie season. He was a depth offensive tackle and saw time on the practice squad.
New England Patriots Took A Flyer On Lowe
It was not until the 2023 season that his career began to take off. He was traded to the Patriots in August 2023 for a 2024 sixth-round pick. He played in 11 games, starting eight of them. Lowe was able to get starting experience due to injuries and a lack of depth on the roster.
2024 was when he settled into a primary starting role. He played in 14 games with 13 starts overall. This was a difficult year for the offensive line overall, as they used 11 different starting combinations across the season. 12 different offensive linemen started at least one game due to injuries, as well as other things. Lowe was part of the offensive line carousel.
2025 saw him play sharper under coach Mike Vrabel. Lowe was one of several offensive linemen who managed to play at a higher level under new offensive line coach Doug Marone. He was able to help New England in the back half of the season, as injuries began to take their toll across the board.
New England Patriots Line Depth Takes Hit
The Patriots now lose their swing tackle with Lowe gone. Despite fluctuating performances, he had over 1,300 snaps over the course of his career. This could mean that someone such as Caedan Wallace takes on a bigger role next season. Wallace only played in four games last year and 15 snaps in total, so this would be a big leap for the latter.
This could also mean that the Patriots make a move in free agency, with Monday only being the first day. Either way, the Patriots’ depth undoubtedly took a hit with this move. The 49ers will get a viable depth piece and a player who has veteran experience. If Lowe can play at the level he did in 2025, this could be a steal for the 49ers. As far as the Patriots are concerned, they will not have to find a way to replace the loss.
The Patriots have several different directions they can go with this, and it will be interesting to see what they do, with free agency flying and names joining new teams.
