The Detroit Pistons will have their franchise cornerstone fully healthy when they attempt to bounce back from a frustrating stretch.

All-Star guard Cade Cunningham is off the injury report and expected to start Tuesday when Detroit faces the Brooklyn Nets in a rematch of last weekend’s upset.

Cunningham had missed Saturday’s game against Brooklyn because of a left quad contusion, an absence the Nets quickly capitalized on in a 107–105 victory that stunned Detroit and snapped the Pistons’ momentum.

Now fully cleared, Cunningham’s return gives Detroit a chance to reset after what has become its first real rough patch of the season.

Cade Cunningham Availability Boosts Detroit Ahead of Brooklyn Rematch

Detroit enters Tuesday’s matchup hoping Cunningham’s presence will help stabilize the offense after a pair of difficult losses.

The Pistons fell to Brooklyn without their star guard and then dropped another game Sunday, losing 121–110 to the Miami Heat despite Cunningham’s strong individual performance.

Cunningham delivered 26 points and 10 assists in his return, but Detroit struggled to slow Miami and fell behind early.

The defeat extended the Pistons’ slump to a season-high four-game losing streak, something head coach J. B. Bickerstaff believes could ultimately benefit his young team.

“This is really the first time this year that we’ve hit somewhat of a bump in the road, and it’s good for us,” Bickerstaff said. “Adversity is good for us. It’s only going to bring us tighter together. This group has proven that, so there’s opportunity for growth and opportunities for lessons, and we’ll be just fine.”

Pistons Seek Revenge After Stunning Nets Collapse

Detroit’s previous meeting with Brooklyn still lingers.

Even without Cunningham and defensive standout Ausar Thompson, the Pistons had built a 23-point lead before allowing the Nets to storm back and steal the game.

Bickerstaff later said his team failed to respect the moment.

“It’s the NBA, right? You look at the season — it’s long,” Bickerstaff said. “Everybody goes through difficult times or goes through a little bit of a rut. And we just found ours right now. But again, we’ve got plenty of time left to do what we’ve got to do.”

Detroit now has a chance to respond immediately against the same opponent — this time with its floor general leading the way.

Cade Cunningham Remains Pistons’ Engine

Cunningham has been the driving force behind Detroit’s breakthrough season.

The former No. 1 overall pick is averaging 25.2 points and 9.8 assists, orchestrating the offense and controlling tempo. His scoring ability, playmaking and leadership have elevated the Pistons into one of the Eastern Conference’s surprise contenders.

Even during the team’s recent slide, Cunningham has continued to perform at a high level.

His 26-point, 10-assist outing against Miami marked yet another double-digit assist performance and reinforced his role as Detroit’s offensive centerpiece.

With 19 games remaining in the regular season, the Pistons will rely heavily on Cunningham’s availability to steady the team and guide them through the playoff race.

Pistons Focus on Themselves, Not Celtics in Eastern Race

Despite their recent skid, Detroit remains in strong position in the Eastern Conference standings.

The Pistons still hold a 2.5-game lead over the defending champion Boston Celtics, who recently welcomed superstar Jayson Tatum back from injury.

But Bickerstaff insists Detroit’s focus remains internal rather than scoreboard-watching.

“You know, Boston obviously is a good team,” Bickerstaff said. “But we’re not concerned about Boston. Our biggest concern is making sure that we’re doing what we need to do to go out there and be as good as we possibly can.”

The coach remains confident his group will respond.

“We’ve got plenty of time to figure it out — and we will.”

Pistons Eye Late-Season Push With Cunningham Healthy

Detroit’s immediate priority is regaining momentum before the final stretch of the season.

With Cunningham healthy and expected to start Tuesday, the Pistons hope their leader’s return can help them quickly end the losing streak and reignite their push toward the postseason.

For a team that has exceeded expectations throughout the year, Tuesday’s matchup against Brooklyn offers more than just another regular-season game.

It’s a chance to prove that the recent slump was merely a temporary stumble — and that the Pistons, led by Cunningham, are ready to steady themselves for the stretch run.
