Report: Bryan Cook heads home, leaving Chiefs for deal with Bengals

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Another member of the Kansas City Chiefs 2022 draft class is heading elsewhere in free agency.

According to a report from NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, safety Bryan Cook is signing a three-year deal with his hometown Cincinnati Bengals.

Cook, a Cincinnati native and University of Cincinnati product, agreed to terms on a deal worth more than $40 million on Monday, as the NFL’s free agency period begins.

Kansas City drafted Cook in the second round, 62nd overall, in the 2022 NFL Draft. He was part of a young Chiefs secondary that included Trent McDuffie, Jaylen Watson and Joshua Williams, who all helped the Chiefs win the Super Bowl as rookies that season.

The group helped a dominant Chiefs defense rank in the top 5 in several defensive categories during the 2023 season, going back-to-back as Super Bowl champions.

In four seasons in Kansas City, Cook played in 62 regular season games and six postseason games. Cook missed a significant portion of the 2023 season after breaking his ankle in a game against the Green Bay Packers in November.

Cook had an interception during Kansas City’s Super Bowl 59 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in February 2025.

During his Chiefs career, over the regular and postseason, he finished with 257 tackles, 4 interceptions and 17 passes defensed.

He becomes the third 2022 Chiefs draft class defender to depart this offseason, with McDuffie being traded to -- and Watson signing with -- the Los Angeles Rams.
