Right after being named February’s Western Conference Player of the Month and Defensive Player of the Month, Victor Wembanyama has been named the Player of the Week. Per a Spurs press release:
> The NBA today announced that Victor Wembanyama has been named the NBA’s Western Conference Player of the Week for the week ending March 8, joining Tyler Herro (Miami Heat) in the Eastern Conference. This is Wembanyama’s second Player of the Week honor this season and the third of his career.
During the week, San Antonio earned a commanding 4-0 record while Wemby avergaed averaging 26.0 points, 10.5 rebounds, 4.75 blocks, 2.3 assists and 1.50 steals in 28.7 minutes.
> The reigning Western Conference Player of the Month became the first player in NBA history to record 38 points (12-24 FG, 4-10 3FG, 10-11 FT), 16 rebounds 5 blocks and 3 assists while knocking down 4 three-pointers in 39 minutes in a 126-106 win vs. Detroit on March 5. The following night he tallied 27 points (11-21, FG, 4-9 3FG, 1-2 FT), 10 rebounds and 4 blocks in just 22 minutes to help rally the Spurs from a 25-point deficit, including a dunk with 16 seconds left, to give the Spurs a 116-112 win vs. L.A. Clippers. Wembanyama capped off the week with 29 points (9-13 FG, 2-5 3FG, 9-10 FT), 8 rebounds, 4 blocks and 2 steals in 30 minutes defeating Houston 145-120 on March 8.
Last Thursday, as the Spurs returned home from the Rodeo Road Trip, Wembanyama recorded his 13th career game with 30+ points, 10+ rebounds, 3+ threes and 3+ blocks in the game against Detroit. Only Kevin Durant has reached those statistics more than Wemby.
Joining him as the Eastern Conference Player of the Week is Tyler Herro of the Miami Heat.
