The Los Angeles Lakers have found their form once again, winning five of their last six games including Sunday's victory against the New York Knicks.
During their run, they've seen impressive performances from Jaxson Hayes, one of their backup big men.
In Thursday's win against the Nuggets, Hayes posted his best performance of the season, scoring 19 points to go along with five rebounds and two assists.
All the while, another Lakers center is performing overseas.
Three-time NBA Champion and 16-year veteran JaVale McGee has dominated in Australia's top league, the NBL (National Basketball League).
There McGee averaged 19.3 points, 10 rebounds, 2.1 assists, 1.8 blocks and 0.9 steals on 24.9 minutes per game.
In his strongest performance of the year, McGee scored 37 points to go along with 14 rebounds, two steals and one block.
However, McGee's team the Illawarra Hawks did not advance to the NBL Playoffs.
Following his strong season, the 38-year-old spoke about returning to the NBL for the 2027 season.
“I’ve absolutely loved my time here in Australia,” said McGee.
“I definitely have a high temptation to come back next season.”
Given that his NBA days are likely over, if McGee decides to continue his career, the NBL would be a great place to do it.
There McGee has proven to be effective despite his age, averaging much better career numbers than he did while playing in America.
McGee's best NBA season came nearly 15 years ago, when he posted 11.3 points, 7.8 rebounds and 2.2 blocks for both the Washington Wizards and Denver Nuggets.
Either way, as the NBL offseason nears, McGee's return status will be worth monitoring.
