Cardinals agree to 1-year, $8 million deal with QB Gardner Minshew, reports say

**PHOENIX (AZFamily)** — After the release of Kyler Murray, the Arizona Cardinals nabbed a veteran quarterback amid a huge offseason overhaul.

ESPN Senior NFL Insider Adam Schefter reported that former Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Gardner Minshew and the Cardinals reached a one-year, $8 million deal.

The news of Minshew’s signing comes just days after reports surfaced that the Cardinals would be releasing Murray. The Heisman-winning quarterback was drafted by the Cardinals with the No. 1 overall pick in 2019. However, he suffered setbacks and injuries during his time in the desert.

Minshew was drafted to the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2019 out of Washington State and made his debut that season when Nick Foles fractured his clavicle. He took over the role as starting quarterback as Foles struggled for the Jaguars. As a rookie, Minshew finished with a 6-8 record, 3,271 passing yards and 21 touchdowns.

Minshew was slated to serve as Jacksonville’s new starter after Foles was traded to the Chicago Bears during the 2020 season. However, struggles began to pile up, and Minshew was benched as the Jaguars sat at a 1-7 record.

In the 2021 season, Minshew was traded to the Eagles to serve as a backup to Jalen Hurts. He sat in the backup role for two seasons before becoming the starter once again for the Indianapolis Colts in 2023.

Minshew saw his best NFL success with the Colts, earning Pro Bowl honors and set several career highs. He threw 3,305 yards, 15 touchdowns and nine interceptions, but the Colts came up just short of the playoffs.

In 2024, he was traded once again to the Las Vegas Raiders to serve as the starter. However, inconsistent play once again caused him to be benched before being released by the team.

Minshew was then picked up by the Kansas City Chiefs after Patrick Mahomes injured his knee, ending his 2025 season. However, Minshew fractured his tibia in Week 16, ending his own season.
