Liverpool still have a few areas that need to be addressed and Richard Hughes could be “busy” again.

When the transfer window shut in the summer it looked like Liverpool had recruited better than anyone else.

Throughout the season Arne Slot has realised that there are several holes that need to be filled in defence, midfield and the forward line. With Alexander Isak and Hugo Ekitike to choose from in the striker department, most of the money being spent will probably go towards wingers.

Liverpool set to be “busy” in the summer

Cody Gakpo has been unable to replace Luis Diaz’s output and the decline of Mohamed Salah has surprised everyone. A move to MLS or Saudi Arabia seems certain for Salah now with Fabrizio Romano reporting that he might not be the only one leaving Anfield: “I think it will be a busy summer for Liverpool with wingers. It’s very clear they need to reinforce their wingers,” Romano said on his YouTube channel.

“The situation with Salah and Gakpo. In general, I think Liverpool need to add something fresh in that position. I will come back very soon to tell you more.” Gakpo was linked with a move to Bayern Munich and his profile is one that various clubs will consider. Just because he isn’t what Liverpool needs, doesn’t mean that he wouldn’t be the perfect fit somewhere else.

Who have Liverpool been linked with?

Liverpool have been linked with several wingers already. In January, a move for Paris Saint Germain’s Bradley Barcola was considered with his future in Ligue 1 looking increasingly uncertain. Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye is another who would add a ball carrying threat on the right, if not the same prolific goal return.

To replace Salah though, the name at the top of the list could well be Bayern Munich’s Michael Olise. According to Romano, this deal might be a hard one to get done though: “Michael Olise is appreciated, but Bayern have no intention at all of letting him go. There’s no release clause in his contract. There are other realistic targets for Liverpool.”

Olise would probably cost every bit as much as Isak if not more and, with money needed to be spent elsewhere, other targets are more likely. One of which is RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande. For £80m or £87m depending on reports, the teenage flyer is considerably more affordable. Leipzig will also be more willing to sell.
