Bobby Portis isn't convinced of the rumors that Doc Rivers will finally call it quits from coaching right after this 2025-26 season.

Out of the significant contract Rivers still has, Portis dismissed the narratives that the Milwaukee Bucks head coach will soon choose to retire.

"I don't think Doc walking away from that 15 to 16 [million]. That's a lot of bread to just walk away from and say you don't want it at all. That's a lot of bread, man. He making about 15 to 16 [million] a year, so nah, man. I think that's cap. I think he'll be back next year, man," Rivers said on Run It Back. "That's just my opinion.

"We some real people in real life, man. Who walking away from 15–16 million? I don't know too many people."

Speculations about Rivers' future in coaching began when ESPN personality Stephen A. Smith claimed that this season would be the last for the longtime mentor.

As such, a day later, Rivers himself pushed back on Smith's notion that he will retire following this year.

Rivers signed a four-year, $40 million deal with Milwaukee to replace Adrian Griffin as the team's head coach in the middle of the 2023-24 season. Unfortunately, the Bucks endured back-to-back first-round defeats in the last two years. This season is even more brutal as they are on the verge of missing the NBA Playoffs as the current 11th team in the East with a 27-36 record.

Despite what anyone may say or criticize about Rivers, Portis still has support for his candidacy for the Hall of Fame. Rivers has been recently named as one of the finalists for the Naismith Basketball Hall of Fame.

"Doc Rivers, man, he's a good coach in my opinion," Portis said. "He pushes guys on a different level each and every day. Sometimes he can be super hard on certain guys, and certain guys might not understand what it takes to take it to that next level. But in my opinion, just the person, the personality, what he's done in his past—one chip."
