ESPN oddly questions Chiefs' $43 million free agency signing

The Kansas City Chiefs, for most, had a great start to their offseason, signing Seattle Seahawks running back Kenneth Walker.

The three-year, $43 million deal is an expensive one, but in return, the Chiefs got the best running back on the market.

After Walker's Super Bowl MVP performance, the list of suitors was long, and a bidding war was likely to start. And it's one the Chiefs won.

But while some are lauding the move to get Patrick Mahomes a top running back, others, like ESPN's Seth Walder, aren't fans of the move.

Walder gave it a C+ grade.

"He clearly fills a need for Kansas City, and you can easily understand why they want him," Walder wrote. "I do think there are some drawbacks.

"While I wouldn't make this deal myself, Kansas City must find a way to jump-start its offense again. The most important part of that will come in the passing game, but a better running back could help."

Walker a key Chiefs signing

Walder cited the Seahawks' preference to have Zach Charbonnet in on third downs and passing situations as a reason why he wouldn't have done this deal.

But if there is one coordinator who can make it work with a player like Walker, it's Andy Reid.

Given the Chiefs' attacking weapons in Xavier Worthy, Travis Kelce, and Rashee Rice, now we add Walker to the mix, and Mahomes has some nice pieces to work with.

No, Walker's receiving skills aren't elite, but they can be improved on, and I bet that will be a main focus as the offseason gets underway.

But a C+ grade for Walker? That seems a little harsh to me.
