Packers compensatory pick for losing Quay Walker revealed

Former Green Bay Packers linebacker Quay Walker inked a long-term contract with the Las Vegas Raiders during the NFL’s legal tampering period, reuniting with former college teammate Nakobe Dean in a revamped front seven.

While the Packers may have had an inclination that Walker was headed for the exits when Green Bay traded for veteran Zaire Franklin over the weekend, general manager Brian Gutekunst and Co. won’t be walking away empty handed from losing Walker.

The Raiders made a massive commitment to Walker, signing the former University of Georgia standout to a three-year contract worth up to $40.25 millin, including $28 million in guarantees.

For Las Vegas, Walker is a piece of a high-priced puzzle this offseason revamping the talent across the roster, along with Dean and top center Tyler Linderbaum heading west.

Meanwhile, for the Packers, it means a compensatory pick in next year’s NFL Draft.

Because of the magnitude of Walker’s contract, the Packers will receive a fifth-round pick in the 2027 NFL Draft. If the Packers sign a player to replace Walker that approaches his $13.5 million salary this season, it would change the equation, but as it stands Green Bay will be receiving an additional fifth-rounder in 2027.

The Packers seemingly planned for losing Walker, but will at least have a future asset to rebuild with after his departure.

Green Bay Packers General Manager Brian Gutekunst talks with head coach Matt LaFleur during fifth day of training camp on July 28, 2025, at Ray Nitschke Field in Ashwaubenon, Wis.
