Denver Broncos re-sign key linebacker during 2026 free agency

The Denver Broncos are looking to continue to be contenders after making the AFC Championship Game last season. While they are making decisions on their roster, they have also decided to re-sign one of their key defensive players. Let’s take a closer look at who it is they made the decision to extend and what it means for the team going forward.

DNVR Bronocs beat reporter Zac Stevens is reporting that the Denver Broncos are re-signing linebacker Alex Singleton to a two-year, $15 million contract with $11 million being guaranteed. In a 3-4 defense, having a linebacker that already knows the system is a significant advantage for the Broncos, who had one of the best defensive teams last season.

Singleton would have a strong 2025 season and played in 16 games. He would record 135 total tackles (54 solo, 81 assisted) with one sack, three tackles for loss, three quarterback hits, four pass deflections, and a forced fumble. Singleton is also a veteran who can help in the second level, entering his eighth season in the league.

The Denver Broncos are built to be an outstanding defense with a younger offense, so making sure Singleton is under contract guarantees that they will have a talented and experienced player to lean on. Singleton is the second linebacker to return to the team as they also re-signed Justin Strnad to a three-year, $18 million deal on Sunday. Singleton made it known he wanted to be back with the Denver Broncos as he was asked the day after the Super Bowl and talked about it:

“I want to be back here… obviously the best thing to do is run it back. We were the best defense in the league.”

It will be intriguing to see how he does going forward and if he can continue to be a force on defense.
