Broncos retain 27-year old running back for two more years

The Denver Broncos are retaining a key member of the offense. They’ve re-signed running back J.K. Dobbins to a two-year, $20 million deal, according to Tom Pelissero. The deal will also include $8 million guaranteed.

Dobbins, 27, has been an elite running back in spurts. In his six-year career, he’s earned 3,024 yards and 25 touchdowns on 582 carries. That averages out to about 3,024 yards per carry.

However, injuries have haunted Dobbins almost every year he’s been in the league. After his rookie season in 2020, where he racked up 805 yards and nine touchdowns on 134 carries, Dobbins tore his ACL in the preseason, missing the entirety of 2021.

Dobbins would suffer another knee injury in Week 6 of the 2022 season, missing another eight games. In 2023, Dobbins suffered a torn Achilles tendon in a Week 1 win vs. the Houston Texans, and his season ended prematurely again. The Ravens let him enter free agency after his rookie contract expired in 2023.

He signed with the Los Angeles Chargers and earned a career-high 905 yards and nine touchdowns on 195 attempts, but he suffered an MCL sprain in Week 12, causing him to miss four more games.

With the Denver Broncos, he earned 772 yards and four touchdowns on 153 carries, but he suffered a Lisfranc injury in their Week 10 win vs. the Las Vegas Raiders, ending his season. Dobbins did well complementing 2025 second-round pick RJ Harvey, so the Broncos will keep the two-headed monster intact.
