Kansas City Chiefs sign Alohi Gilman to 3-year contract in free agency

The Kansas City Chiefs are looking to get back into the postseason after a terrible season in 2025. The team has made some decisions to free up some cap space by getting rid of players, but they have added some secondary help. Let’s take a closer look at who they have signed and what it means for the Chiefs going forward.

The Kansas City Chiefs have made an addition to their secondary late Monday night. The team has signed free agent safety Alohi Gilman to a three-year, $24.75 million contract with $15 million guaranteed, per ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler. After trading away cornerback Trent McDuffie to the Los Angeles Rams last week, this gives the team some additional help in the secondary.

Gilman played for the Los Angeles Chargers and Baltimore Ravens last season. In 17 games, he recorded 90 total tackles (50 solo, 40 assisted) with one tackle for loss, one quarterback hit, one forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, and nine pass deflections. He was traded to the Ravens last season with a fifth-round pick in exchange for Odafe Oweh and a seventh-round pick in early October. The defense has been one of the biggest strengths of the Chiefs throughout the last few seasons, so this is a chance to add another defender to help them.

Pro Football Focus gave Gilman a 70.4 grade last season, which was 24th out of 98 qualified safeties. The team has a young secondary, but has been able to do well in drafting and developing members in the secondary over the course of this dynastic run. With the Kansas City Chiefs already bringing back tight end Travis Kelce, amongst others, this team is looking to make some splashes during free agency.
