Fast forward to 2010, and another significant event unfolded on this day, involving one of football’s most iconic figures, David Beckham. Seven years after his departure from Manchester United, Beckham made an emotional return to Old Trafford. At the time, he was on loan from LA Galaxy to AC Milan. During a Champions League Round of Last 16 second leg tie, Beckham entered the pitch as a 63rd-minute substitute for the Italian side. Despite the warm reception from the home fans, the match was firmly in Manchester United’s control. Having secured a 3-2 victory at the San Siro in the first leg, United were already leading 3-0 when Beckham joined the game. The match concluded with a 4-0 victory for Manchester United, resulting in a 7-2 aggregate win. Wayne Rooney emerged as the standout performer, scoring two goals in each leg of the tie. Beckham’s return was further highlighted by his gesture of wearing a green and yellow scarf, a symbol of the Manchester United fans’ protest against the club’s owners, the Glazer family, earning him additional applause from the crowd.
