Report: Axel Disasi's stance on swapping Chelsea for West Ham permanently

Axel Disasi’s loan move to West Ham United has been so much of a success that he’s already open to joining permanently from Chelsea if they can meet one condition.

Chelsea had no place for Axel Disasi, even under Liam Rosenior, despite him being introduced back into first-team training.

The damage was already done by Enzo Maresca, who decided to throw Disasi into the ‘bomb squad’ at Cobham, which wasted countless months of his career.

He’s since proved he’s worth a lot more at West Ham. Since joining the Hammers, he’s helped them keep four clean sheets, when they only had one prior to him joining.

And it seems as if his impact is making him lean towards staying at the club.

Axel Disasi wants to stay at West Ham if they avoid relegation

Reliable West Ham source ExWHUemployee (via C&H) reported that Disasi would love to make his loan move permanent should West Ham avoid relegation this season.

With the wealth of options Chelsea currently have in their side, it’s unlikely he’ll have a future at all at Stamford Bridge, unless there’s suddenly a change of heart.

West Ham left-back Malick Diouf criticised Chelsea for their “crazy” treatment of Disasi. Not just because it was harsh, but because he could not believe Chelsea didn’t play him more.

Since joining West Ham, Disasi has been crucial. He’s helped them secure eight points in their last five Premier League games, including two wins and three clean sheets.

Did Chelsea make a mistake with Disasi?

From a tactical standpoint, the decision was logical. Liam Rosenior’s high-line system requires mobile center-backs like Tosin Adarabioyo and Levi Colwill, making the less agile Disasi a poor fit.

However, the mistake lies in the management. After joining for £38.5 million in 2023, Disasi’s value plummeted during a year of inactivity and loan spells. While he has been a revelation for West Ham, Chelsea are now in a position where they must hope he keeps the Hammers up to recoup a fraction of his original fee.

It wasn’t a tactical error to let him go, but the manner of his freezing out certainly hurt Chelsea’s pockets.
