FA Cup Team of the 5th Round XI

The FA Cup fifth round is over – however, the magic of the cup is still very much alive. We saw some major shocks in round five, but who made it into our team of the round?

We’ve included a variety of players in this list – from Manchester City to Port Vale, here’s who made the cut this week.

GK: Joe Gauci

Port Vale sprung another major FA Cup surprise when they defeated Sunderland at Vale Park – not only did they emerge victorious, they were also able to maintain a clean sheet with the help of Joe Gauci.

Gauci made no less than six saves against the Black Cats, putting in an heroic shift between the sticks to send League One’s bottom club into the quarter-finals.

RB: Josh Acheampong

Josh Acheampong has experienced a real trial by fire this season, but he’s emerged relatively unscathed – his performance against Wrexham was his latest successfully-cleared hurdle.

He scored a late goal from the wing-back position to spare Chelsea’s blushes against the Red Dragons – while he couldn’t keep a clean sheet, his attacking contributions made up for it.

CB: Connor Hall

Connor Hall was an absolute titan against Sunderland on on Sunday afternoon. He met almost everything that the Black Cats could launch into the box, defending his goal with fearsome vigour.

Port Vale will take on Chelsea in the quarter-finals – can the Valiants continue their epic FA Cup run, or will the Blues prove to be too much?

CB: Taylor Harwood-Bellis

Taylor Harwood-Bellis has had a rough couple of years – after being touted as a future England star, a dreadful season in the Premier League with Southampton saw him fall out of contention.

Nevertheless, his display against Fulham was a great way for him to silence the critics. Keeping a clean sheet against a Premier League club is no mean feat – especially away from home.
