Travis Kelce will return to the Kansas City Chiefs for another season, and the NFL quickly celebrated the news.
The 36-year-old tight end will play his 14th season with the Chiefs, the franchise he helped lead to Super Bowl championships in 2020, 2023, and 2024.
The announcement immediately drew reactions from the league, teammates, and fans. The official NFL social media account even shared a video highlighting “love” for Kelce’s return as the veteran star prepares for what could be his final season in the NFL.
Travis Kelce Returning to Kansas City Chiefs for 14th Season
Kelce reportedly informed the Kansas City Chiefs that he plans to return before the start of free agency.
According to ESPN, Kelce agreed to a deal worth at least $12 million, with a maximum value of $15 million. The tight end made the decision before the beginning of the free agency period and told the team Monday that he intends to play another season.
Kelce’s previous contract was set to expire on March 11, following the two-year, $34.25 million extension he signed in April 2024.
Sources also told NFL Network that Kelce turned down more lucrative offers from other teams during free agency to stay with the Chiefs.
The decision ensures that one of the most accomplished tight ends in NFL history will remain in Kansas City for at least one more season.

After news of Kelce’s decision broke, the official NFL account shared a celebratory video featuring the veteran tight end.
In the clip, Kelce repeatedly expressed affection and appreciation for those around him.
“I love this man,” Kelce said in the video.
“I love this boy,” he continued, before adding, “You know I love this baby,” and “It’s all love baby.”
Kelce concluded the clip with another message of support.
“Love you dog,” he said.
The NFL captioned the video with a simple message celebrating the tight end’s return.
“he’s not done yet,” the league wrote alongside a salute emoji.
Fans and Patrick Mahomes React to Travis Kelce’s Return
Fans flooded the comments section on social media after the NFL shared the video celebrating Kelce’s return.
Many supporters referenced Kelce’s high-profile relationship with Taylor Swift while celebrating the tight end’s decision to continue playing.
“I mean Taylor does need a season as Mrs. Kelce on the sidelines,” one fan wrote.
Another fan praised Kelce’s energetic personality on the field.
“I’m glad our Human Exclamation Point is returning to the field. C’mon Travis. It’s not the end…. It’s the tightest end!”
A third fan referenced Swift’s song “Karma” while celebrating the Chiefs star.
“KARMA IS THE GUY ON THD CHIEFS,” the comment read.
Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes also acknowledged the news on Monday. Mahomes shared photos of himself and Kelce playing together on Instagram.

Kansas City Chiefs Make Multiple Moves During Free Agency
Kelce’s return comes as the Kansas City Chiefs continue to reshape their roster during the opening days of free agency.
The team reportedly agreed to a three-year contract with running back Kenneth Walker valued at $43.05 million in base salary, with $28.7 million fully guaranteed. The deal could reach a maximum value of $45 million.
Walker, the reigning Super Bowl MVP, forced missed tackles on 30.2 percent of his touches last season, the third-highest rate in the NFL among players with at least 150 touches, according to NFL Next Gen Stats.
Kansas City also added defensive tackle Khyiris Tonga on a three-year, $21 million deal that includes $14 million guaranteed.
Tonga produced 24 tackles, two tackles for loss, two quarterback hits, and two pass deflections in 14 games last season. Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones reacted to the signing on X, writing, “Tonga is a dawg.”
At the same time, Kansas City lost several contributors in free agency.
Cornerback Jaylen Watson signed a three-year deal with the Los Angeles Rams after emerging as a full-time starter in 2025. Safety Bryan Cook also departed, agreeing to a three-year contract with the Cincinnati Bengals after developing into one of the league’s promising young players.
Backup quarterback Gardner Minshew also left the team, signing a one-year deal with the Arizona Cardinals. Minshew started one game for Kansas City during the 2025 season before suffering a knee injury.
Kelce’s return now ensures that one of the most important offensive weapons in franchise history will remain part of the Chiefs’ roster as the team prepares for the upcoming season.
