There are a lot of similarities between former Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe and current Chelsea forward Joao Pedro.
In his day, Defoe was a very good finisher blessed with pace. At Chelsea, Pedro has proven to be a similar kind of No.9.
Pedro recently netted a hat-trick in the Premier League, showing off his finishing ability.

Jermain Defoe backs himself over Joao Pedro
Pedro is on an incredible run of form right now. In his last 12 games, the Brazilian has scored 11 goals!
Even so, Defoe still thinks he would get into this Chelsea team over Pedro. When asked if he would start for this Chelsea side in his prime, the 43-year-old told ESPN yes.
At this moment in time, the Blues are getting on just fine with Pedro. However, one outfit who could clearly do with Defoe is his former side Tottenham.

Spurs are just one point above the relegation zone in the Premier League table and face Chelsea away in gameweek 37. It means there is a possibility of Igor Tudor’s men being relegated at Stamford Bridge.
Jermain Defoe’s best goalscoring season in the Premier League compared to Joao Pedro’s
Defoe is one of the best goalscorers the Premier League has seen. He finished his playing career with more than 160 goals in the competition.
His best individual season came in 2009/10 when he scored 18 goals. It is a good tally, but one Pedro can definitely beat.
The Brazil international’s highest-scoring campaign is the current one. This term, he has scored 14 goals in 29 appearances.

It means Pedro has nine more games left to match Defoe and even surpass him. With the form that he is in, it really is not impossible for Pedro to score 20 goals in the Premier League before May.
No Chelsea striker has done that since Diego Costa back in the 2016/17 season. It would be quite the achievement if Pedro can become the first.
