Arsenal legend Ray Parlour has sparked a fresh debate around the club’s attacking future. This comes after he suggested that Gabriel Jesus may soon leave the Emirates Stadium. The former midfielder believes the Brazilian striker could look for regular football elsewhere. In addition, Parlour has already urged the club to act fast in the transfer market.
Ray Parlour Raises Alarm Over Gabriel Jesus Future
Gabriel Jesus arrived at Arsenal in the summer of 2022 with huge expectations. After leaving Manchester City, the Brazilian forward was seen as a key piece in Mikel Arteta’s squad. His early days at the North London club showed exactly why the club brought him in. The player brought energy, pressing, and creativity to the attack. He helped the Gunners push strongly in the Premier League.
However, the story has changed over the last two seasons. Injuries have slowed him down, including a serious knee problem that kept him out for many months. Even after returning, he has struggled to cement a regular starting spot. Arteta’s side have added new attacking options, and competition has become intense.
As per reports, Ray Parlour believes this situation could push the forward toward the exit door. Speaking about the striker’s future, he said: “I think Jesus might leave at the end of the season, he is at that age where he wants to be playing week in, week out.
“We could lose him. We had four strikers when I played. That’s what I don’t understand. (Regardless of Jesus leaving), bring in another one anyway. That can give the other options a lift because they see the standard being set.”
His comments show a growing concern among fans and pundits. Arsenal are fighting on multiple fronts each season, and depth in attack is becoming more important. If Jesus leaves, the club could suddenly find itself short of experienced forwards.
Numbers also tell the same problem. Since leaving Man City, the Brazilian has missed long periods through injury. He has scored 27 goals in over 100 appearances. Reportedly, he has missed more than 70 games due to injuries during that time.
Arsenal’s Attack Under Pressure As Competition Grows
Another factor behind the uncertainty is the rise of new attacking options at Emirates. The club invested heavily in the forward line, including the signing of striker Viktor Gyokeres. His arrival has changed the attacking dynamics. With that, it has reduced Jesus’ role in the starting lineup.
Kai Havertz has also been used as a central striker in several matches. Other players have stepped up during important moments. For a player like Jesus, who thrives on rhythm and confidence, limited playing time can quickly become frustrating.
At the same time, Arsenal are fighting for multiple titles. The club has been fighting near the top of the Premier League and competing strongly in Europe. In such a busy schedule, rotation is likely necessary. But, players still want regular football to show their worth.
Julian Alvarez Named As Ideal Replacement Target
Ray Parlour also suggested a player who could strengthen the squad if changes happen in the summer. The former midfielder believes Julian Alvarez would be a great addition to the team.
The Argentine forward has already proven his quality in Europe. Parlour said,“For me, Alvarez would be a great addition to the squad. There will always be people coming and going in the summer because it’s a big squad and they can’t keep everyone happy.”
The current Atletico Madrid star earned huge praise during his time at Man City. There, he played an important role in their huge title run. Parlour highlighted that experience while explaining why the striker could fit perfectly into Arsenal’s system.
