Injury concerns have been piling on the Philadelphia 76ers, and the bug bit Tyrese Maxey recently.

During a Saturday night matchup on the road against the Atlanta Hawks, Maxey couldn’t make it out of the game without a setback. The star guard was seen dealing with discomfort in his hand during the final moments.

Maxey went back to the Sixers’ locker room without any time to return to the 125-116 loss.

After the game, Maxey was seen in good spirits. However, that didn’t mean he would be ready to suit up for the next outing. Heading into the Monday night battle against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Maxey was ruled out in advance. As he’s dealing with a sprain in his hand, the Sixers decided to take him off the court for at least two games.

Ahead of Monday’s action, Nick Nurse made a statement on the setback.

“Yeah, obviously, it adds to the concern factor for sure. I mean, as you know, they got the imaging. There are no breaks in there, but he still needs to see a specialist or two here to see where we’re going with it. No breaks is where we are now, and he won’t play tonight and tomorrow. We know that for sure, and then we’ll see where we are after,” Nurse told reporters, via Sixers Wire.

“He seems OK. His spirits are good. He’s like, ‘I’ll be back.’ You know, he wants to be back. I mean, but we got to get him to see these people and see that, but he’s definitely in good spirits and wanting to get back ASAP.”

Going into a tough battle against the Cavaliers on Monday night, the Sixers missed Paul George, Joel Embiid, VJ Edgecombe, and Maxey.

George is currently serving a league-issued suspension, which is in play through late March. Joel Embiid suffered an oblique injury, which has resulted in a five-game absence already.

VJ Edgecombe went down with a back injury during the Sixers’ March 3 matchup against the San Antonio Spurs. He is considered day-to-day, but has missed three games in a row since leaving the San Antonio matchup early.

Following a 115-101 loss on the road in Cleveland, Ohio, the Sixers will be back in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on Tuesday night to complete a back-to-back set. The shorthanded Memphis Grizzlies are in town.

Although the Sixers haven’t released their injury report, they are expected to be without Embiid, George, and Maxey. Edgecombe, who is day-to-day, is the only one out of that group with a shot to make his return before the Thursday night matchup against the Detroit Pistons on March 12.

The Sixers don’t seem overly concerned about Maxey’s setback, but only time will tell how his hand responds to the treatment.

In the meantime, the Sixers are forced to roll without their most consistent player this year.

Before going down, Maxey logged 61 games this season. The veteran guard is leading the league in playing time, with 38.3 minutes per game. The Sixers’ star is shooting 46% from the field and 37% from three, averaging 29.0 points per game.

Along with his scoring, Maxey is coming down with 4.1 rebounds per game, and dishing out 6.7 assists per matchup. He was voted as an NBA All-Star for the second season of his career.
