Arne Slot can officially become the most successful Liverpool manager ever

Liverpool manager Arne Slot can break Kenny Dalglish’s record of most wins in his first 100 games if they beat Galatasaray tonight.

The Reds will play at Rams Park in the Champions League, in a special anniversary game for the Dutch manager.

Slot has won 62 games in 99 matches, in comparison to Dalglish’s record during his first spell at the club, where he won 62 in 100 matches.

If the Reds are successful in their game against Galatasaray, it will place their current manager as the best in their history over a century of matches.

The club’s previous manager Jurgen Klopp, who won a league title and the Champions League, only had 50 victories after his first 100 games, while it took him 181 matches to reach 100 victories.

Rafael Benitez won 54 times in his first 100 games at the helm for the Merseyside team and was quicker than the German in reaching 100 wins, doing so in only 174 fixtures.

Club legends Bill Shankly and Bob Paisley also had a better first 100 games than Klopp.

Ahead of the game, Slot spoke of the privilege to manage the Reds for 100 games and said: “It makes me really proud that I’ve become the Liverpool manager and that it’s going to be my 100th game.

“I don’t think it’s a bad track record in those hundred games, although sometimes you get a different feeling about that.

“It’s nice that my 100th game is such a nice game to play, a last 16 Champions League game against Galatasaray.

“But it’s never about the manager, it’s about the players. I try to prepare them just like all the other 99 games I've done before.

“But then it’s always the players who have to go out and perform, and I’ve been very lucky that I’ve been given such a good team in both seasons.

“I always trust that these players will always perform at the levels we are used to in a Liverpool team.”

Slot replaced Klopp at Anfield in 2024 and won the Premier League in his first season, to equal the German manager’s total.

However, this season the defending champions are not as competitive and currently sit sixth on 48 points, with 13 of his 22 defeats at the club coming in his second season.

The Champions League is one of two competitions where they are still in contention for silverware and have impressed this year, after they finished third in the league phase.

A win isn’t a foregone conclusion, especially given the world-famous Galatasaray supporters, who will make it difficult for the visitors.

He added: “These fans over here are very impressive, we noticed that when we played here.

“The good thing is we've experienced it already once now. That is a positive thing, though the Galatasaray players experience it every home game.

"For us it was new. When you have the ball, the whistling is so loud, so loud! That was new for me and even for all of my experienced players.

"The good thing is we've already experienced it, but we don't only play against the fans, 11 very good players with a very good manager."

Liverpool have not won in their three previous away games at Galatasaray in the competition.

The six-time European champions have already suffered a 1-0 defeat in the league phase this season in September at Rams Park.
