From Italy: Juventus handed Alisson contract stumbling block

Alisson Becker has emerged as a serious goalkeeping target for Juventus this summer according to reports in Italy.

Alisson Becker has emerged as a serious goalkeeping target for Juventus this summer according to reports in Italy.

La Gazzetta dello Sport claimed earlier this month that Juventus are exploring a move for Alisson as they weigh up replacing under-pressure keeper Michele Di Gregorio ahead of the 2026–27 season. Di Gregorio has been criticised for a string of high-profile errors, prompting the Bianconeri to assess options across the Premier League.

Alisson, now at 33 years of age, is viewed in Turin as a readymade, elite solution who knows Serie A well after his spell at Roma. The presence of his former Giallorossi coach Luciano Spalletti in the Juventus dugout is also cited in Italy as a key factor behind their interest.

The Brazilian’s deal expires at the end of 2026, but he has an extension clause to 2027 – which is widely expected to be triggered.

Now fresh Italian input from journalist Franco Leonetti has all but confirmed that Juventus know that the extension will be triggered, and thus meaning Alisson is likely out of their reach:

“It’s understandable that Juventus are looking for a goalkeeper with international experience. Whether it will be Oblak, Alisson, or someone else is too early to say,” Leonetti said as quoted by Tuttomercatoweb.

“Regarding Alisson, the English club are saying that they would like to respect his contract until June 2027.”

For now, the Juventus links look more like an opportunistic push from a club searching for an upgrade in goal than the sign of an imminent exit. Unless Liverpool’s stance softens or a huge offer arrives that changes the landscape, a summer move still appears unlikely despite growing noise from Italy.

Alisson is currently nursing a minor injury sustained on Monday during training, with Giorgi Mamardashvili set to be in-between the sticks vs Galatasaray this Tuesday evening.
