ESPN analyst Peter Schrager said an NFL coach told him Maxx Crosby is "probably the best run defending pass rusher" in the league, prompting ridicule from fans on social media — despite the stats backing up his analysis.
Having been drafted by Las Vegas back in 2019, Crosby was recently dealt to Baltimore for two first-round picks, with the Ravens sending the Raiders their 2026 and 2027 first-round selections in return. Following the trade announcement, Crosby apologized to Raiders fans for not bringing success to the organization.

The 28-year-old is now set to join a Ravens team that desperately needed pass rush help. During the 2025 season, they recorded just 30 sacks, the fewest the franchise has totaled in the last 15 years.

In Crosby, the Ravens have added one of the best defensive players in the NFL to their roster.
The two-time second-team All-Pro pass rusher will prove a huge weapon off the edge for incoming head coach Jesse Minter to utilize. Additionally, he will also help defend the run, something which Baltimore struggled with last season.
That fact was not lost on Schrager either. Speaking on ESPN's First Take, the NFL insider admitted in real time that he had received a message from an NFL coach while on air, saying Crosby was probably the best run-defending pass rusher in the entire league, something fans on social media disagreed with.

"Stephen A., I would just add this, as I was doing that whole rant and throwing my flowers at Maxx Crosby, an NFL coach reached out to me in real time," Schrager told Stephen A. Smith, Jason McCourty and Laura Rutledge.
"As you know, this happens, and said he's [Crosby] also probably the best run defender at that position in the entire league. Don't forget run defense.
"And I said OK. Jason McCourty, you know more about that than I do, but when you put that altogether and you put that on the Baltimore Ravens franchise with those fans and that scene, yeah, sign me up, let's go."
However, the replies to ESPN's social media clip all said the same thing. "Ohhh stop," wrote one fan. Another commented: "Stop it..."
A third said: "One of the best sure. But Myles Garrett is the best run defender at that position. It just happens to get overlooked by his insane pass rush."

Unfortunately for the fans who disagreed with Schrager and the NFL coach, the stats seem to back up their view.
Per the NFL's Next Gen Stats: "Maxx Crosby recorded 24 run stuffs for loss or no gain in 2025, the most by any defensive lineman since 2018 (Calais Campbell, 26).
They added: "Since his debut in 2019, Crosby's 112 run stuffs are the 2nd-most in the NFL and 29 more than any other edge defender."
