Patrick Mahomes Has 1-Word Reaction to Bobby Witt Jr. in WBC Win

Kansas City Chiefs star Patrick Mahomes is recovering from a brutal season-ending injury but is seemingly enjoying other sports as they unfold, including the World Baseball Classic.

As Mahomes is in recovery mode after a brutal season-ending injury, he’s still a sports fan from afar, cheering on the United States in their various championship pursuits. That includes Team USA at the Winter Olympics or in the WBC, where the United States has looked strong so far.

On Monday evening, the team defeated Team Mexico, 5-3, behind a strong pitching debut in the WBC from Paul Skenes, and home runs from New York Yankees slugger Aaron Judge and Boston Red Sox star Roman Anthony.

However, there was more involved than just the pitching and home runs. Stellar defensive play also makes a huge difference in close wins.

Enter MLB Gold Glove winner Bobby Witt Jr. from the Kansas City Royals. Witt Jr. was impressive on both offense and defense, going 2-for-4 with a walk and also coming up big with several diving acrobatic defensive plays.

Those defensive plays prevented potential hits from Team Mexico, which received a two-homerun game from Jarren Durran, also of the Red Sox.

“Dawg,” was all Mahomes could say, as he tagged fellow Kansas City pro athlete in recognition of the performance.

Witt Jr. has only been in the MLB since 2022, spending his entire career with the Royals. However, he's quickly become one of the league's best players. He's achieved two All-Star appearances, two Gold Glove Awards, two Silver Slugger Awards, and was the 2024 MLB batting champion.

The only thing that seems to be messing with that resume, outside of a WBC championship, is winning the World Series. As it stands, Kansas City has 16-to-1 odds to win the American League and 40-1 odds to win the World Series.

Perhaps, Mahomes might be able to lend Witt Jr. some advice on capturing those championships, as the Chiefs star has won three Super Bowl rings in his career.

He expects to be chasing another with the Chiefs in the upcoming season, once he fully recovers and rehabs from his torn ACL and LCL in his left knee, which he suffered in December during one of his team’s remaining regular season games.

The Chiefs are adding Super Bowl MVP running back Kenneth Walker via free agency, which is a significant upgrade for their offense as they look to rebound from a disappointing 2025 season.
