Shai Gilgeous-Alexander #2 of the Oklahoma City Thunder celebrates a made basket during the second half against the Golden State Warriors at Paycom Center on March 7, 2026 in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma.

Oklahoma City Thunder star Shai Gilgeous-Alexander firmly cemented himself as an all-time great during his team’s 129-126 victory over the Denver Nuggets on Monday. After tying Wilt Chamberlain’s record for most consecutive 20-point games (126), SGA hit the game-winning three-pointer in the final seconds to secure the win against their Western Conference foe.

Three-time MVP Nikola Jokic tipped his hat to SGA for his astonishing feat.

“I don’t know that people know how hard it is to do that,” Jokic said. “To make 20 points in 10 [straight] games, not 120 whatever it is, it’s special. He’s a special player.”

“It’s a pleasure and a privilege to battle against him,” added the Serbian star.

SGA Matches Wilt Chamberlain

Nuggets head coach David Adelman said that Gilgeous-Alexander’s record was a testament to his consistency, citing the fact that the Toronto native has averaged over 30 points on 50% shooting for four consecutive seasons dating back to 2022-23.

“The name that he is up there with is Wilt,” Adelman said before Monday’s game.

“If you love this game, you should love the history of it. And for him and for Wilt, to talk about him again and again and again on his records — it just says a lot about Shai’s career, the consistency that he’s shown over the years.”

David Adelman on SGA’s 20-point streak: “The name he’s up there with is Wilt. If you love this game, you love the history… It just says a lot about Shai’s career. The consistency he’s shown over the years. And the fact basketball is at a really good place right now… It’s the

Elsewhere, retired NBA players DeMarcus Cousins, Chandler Parsons and Lou Williams gave SGA his flowers on FanDuel TV’s “Run it Back” on Tuesday morning.

“This is one of the most consistent superstars we’ve seen in this league, I would say in a long time… his nickname should be ‘Mr. Consistent,” Cousins said.

Parsons declared that SGA ended the MVP race on Monday night.

“SGA constantly reminds you how good he is…he deserves to be MVP this year.”

SGA Reacts to ‘Crazy’ Feat

Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault praised SGA for staying locked in the game and making a game-winner even after making history midway through the second half.

“Tremendous poise, confidence,” Daigneault said of SGA’s game-winner.

“It doesn’t change his mindset regardless of the circumstance. … It was an outstanding performance by him. Not only the last stretch, but the game control, the blend of attacking and passing. He put his team in advantages all night.”

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, the No. 11 pick in the 2018 NBA Draft, admitted he never envisaged himself becoming a historically great player less than a decade ago.

“I don’t know. It’s still a lot to even wrap my head around,” the reigning MVP said.

“To be honest with you, I try not to even think about it, especially during the season. So much is going on. So many things have to go right for you to get what you ultimately want. And that gets 100 percent of my focus, especially basketball-wise. But obviously, being in a conversation with a guy like that is special.

“It’s crazy to think that where I was 10 years ago, I’d be here today. You work hard, you trust the process and you look up, and great things can happen for you. I’m a testament to that.”

Gilgeous-Alexander will get a chance to break Chamberlain’s record during Thursday’s home game against the Boston Celtics. His 20-point streak began during a game against the Portland Trail Blazers on Nov. 20, 2024.
