Two-time Super Bowl champ delivers harsh message to Seattle Seahawks about NFL free agency

The Super Bowl champion Seattle Seahawks suffered serious losses on the first unofficial day of NFL free agency.

Running back Kenneth Walker III, pass rusher Boye Mafe and cornerback Coby Bryant all agreed to deals with other teams. Free-agent contracts can’t be signed until Wednesday, the first day of the new NFL year.

That talent drain inspired CBS Sports analyst Logan Ryan, a two-time Super Bowl champion with the New England Patriots, to make a strong statement about the Seahawks’ 2026 prospects.

“Good luck trying to repeat,” Ryan said on CBS Sports HQ. “Sometimes these front offices feel like they’re the reasons. ‘We don’t have to pay them. I can draft the next one.’ … That doesn’t always wash. Stars walk out of your building that maybe you should have paid.”

Ryan also mentioned the departure of offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak, who is now the head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders.

Seattle drafted all three of the departing players in the 2022 NFL Draft. Walker joined the Kansas City Chiefs, Mafe headed to the Cincinnati Bengals, and Bryant agreed to become a Chicago Bear.

Walker, 25, earned Super Bowl MVP honors by rushing for 135 yards on 27 carries in the Seahawks’ 29-13 victory over the Patriots. He became the feature back when Zach Charbonnet went down with an injury in the divisional round of the playoffs. In the regular season, Walker rushed for 1,027 yards and five touchdowns and caught 31 passes for 282 yards.

Mafe, a 27-year-old defensive end, started just four games for the Seahawks in 2025. He recorded 31 tackles, four tackles for loss, two sacks and a forced fumble.

Bryant, who turns 27 on March 29, started 15 games in 2025. He had 66 tackles, seven passes defended, four interceptions and a forced fumble.

The Seahawks did agree to deals to retain two of their players on Monday. Receiver and kick returner Rashid Shaheed will stay on a three-year, $51 million contract, and cornerback Josh Jobe is back for three years and $24 million.
