The Sun have just put out a piece claiming to know what Chelsea striker Liam Delap’s future is. The doubts are increasing as we head into March with the summer signing still stuck on one Premier League goal.

“Chelsea insist they still retain faith in Liam Delap,” the piece reads, without giving any indication on their source.

“The Blues feel as though Delap has been unlucky with injuries and that he needs time to come good given his age.”

Chelsea not ready to give up on Delap yet

We can’t see any reason why Chelsea would give up on Delap yet. He was £30m and in the parlance of the times was a “market opportunity” for the Blues given his release clause and the interest in him.

With Emanuel Emegha arriving next summer, we’d imagine the plan is to let those two fight it out as Joao Pedro’s backup. If it reaches January and one of them is barely getting any minutes at all, at that stage a loan or sale could be considered.

On the other hand, if a team makes an offer for Delap that allows us to make even a small profit, we think we’d take it.

The problem is, given his record this season, do we see anyone offering more than the £30m we paid? It seems unlikely.

One move that will definitely be made in the summer is arrival of Geovany Quenda – and there are already plans in place for him.
