UEFA representatives meet with Liverpool chiefs ahead of Galatasaray clash

Galatasaray have revealed that they held a pre-game dinner with some Liverpool chiefs ahead of the game this evening.

As the UEFA Champions League round of 16 first leg looms large, Galatasaray prepares to host Liverpool at RAMS Park in Istanbul for an early kick-off slot of 17:45pm UK time

With Galatasaray’s passionate fans set to create a cauldron-like atmosphere and stars like Victor Osimhen ready to shine, this clash promises edge-of-your-seat action. Tensions are high following their earlier league-phase encounter where the hosts edged a narrow victory, but tonight’s stakes couldn’t be bigger.

The home side are managing plenty of suspension risks, including their star Nigerian striker who is one yellow card away from missing the Anfield leg.

But in a classy display of sportsmanship amid the rivalry, Galatasaray rolled out the red carpet for Liverpool’s delegation and UEFA officials ahead of kickoff.

The meeting was held at Galatasaray High School, with notable figures presenting including Galatasaray president Dursun Aydın Özbek, vice presidents Metin Öztürk and Niyazi Yelkencioğlu, along with Liverpool CEO Billy Hogan, general manager Andy Hughes, and UEFA deputy general secretary Giorgio Marchetti alongside UEFA Delegate Gijs De Jong.

President Dursun Aydın Özbek said of the meeting:

“This is our second match against Liverpool this year. We beat them in the first match here. I expect it to be a good match, there will be a tremendous atmosphere in the stadium. It will be a match where our fans and those who come will be satisfied with football without injury. We hosted our opponent here in our school, in our historical building. I hope we will show our fans a very good match tonight. The activity of the students was a surprise for me as well. They played the anthems sung by both Galatasaray and Liverpool. I congratulate them for their contributions.”

Liverpool General Manager Andy Hughes said:

“Thank you very much for your excellent hospitality. We went to Galatasaray Island for the last match and now we watched a movie and a performance by the students here in high school. It’s really special to be here and of course we are looking forward to tonight’s great game and the amazing atmosphere of the incredible stadium

Finally, UEFA Giorgio Marchetti said:

“I think it will be a very exciting match. Open to all kinds of consequences. Galatasaray showed that they can beat anyone. So I don’t know what’s going to happen, I can say anything can happen. This season, Galatasaray has performed well. They have already beaten Liverpool. They eliminated Juventus. They showed that they can progress in the tournament. This is the beauty of this tournament.”
